Chromium-6 in Phoenix Water
In the film "Erin Brockovich," the environmental crusader confronts the lawyer of a power company that polluted the tap water of Hinkley, Calif., with a carcinogenic chemical called chromium-6.
In a recent study the tests found chromium-6 in almost 90 percent of the water systems sampled. Oklahoma, Arizona and California had the highest average statewide levels and the greatest shares of detection's above California's public health goal. Among major cities, Phoenix had, by far, the highest average level, at almost 400 times the California health goal, and St. Louis and Houston also had comparatively high levels. read full article
There is currently no whole home filtration system available to remove Chromium 6, the only effective treatment is through Reverse Osmosis.

STANDARD REVERSE OSMOSIS VS HIGH EFFICIENCY
Reverse Osmosis Membranes have a production rating of (GPD) gallons per day. The average standard membrane will waste 3 gallons of water for every 1 gallon of purified water it makes. In some cases with the cheaper systems and those that have a low GPD can waste as much as 5 to 6 gallons of water for every one gallon of purified drinking water.
All of our systems that are considered standard come with a minimum 50 GPD membrane and will have a 3:1 ratio. However we also offer systems that feature the Pentair GRO 50 or 75 GPD membrane. This membrane is currently the most efficient membrane on the market today and as a 1:1 ratio. Meaning it will waste 1 gallon for every 1 gallon of purified water it makes. These systems are also 2 to 4 times faster and quieter than a standard membrane.
REVERSE OSMOSIS FILTERS AND MAINTENANCE COSTS
When choosing a reverse osmosis system you will have to decide on a system that contains the industry standard 10" twist off filter housings or a system with encapsulated filters and in most cases are proprietary. Either way the water filtration quality is the same. The differences in the filters will be how long they last and the replacement costs. Most systems sold through home improvement stores, or big box stores have encapsulated filters. Most of them have a 6 month life expectancy and they charge anywhere from $15.00 to $65.00 or more for each filter. The average yearly filter costs alone for these systems is $210.00 and in most cases is more than the original system cost. This is how they make their money.
We always recommend the Industry Standard 10" housing systems as these filters are readily available virtually anywhere and the entire set of filters cost around $25.00. This includes highly rated filters that only need to be replaced once a year.
We do offer systems with encapsulated filters for customers that like the sleek compact design and the convenience of the filter change process. We have chosen systems that have high quality filters that only require yearly filter changes and that have reasonable filter replacement costs.
Unlike the big box store systems our membranes last 2 to 4 times longer and are a fraction of the costs. The standard starts at $35.00 and the high efficient at $65.00.
REVERSE OSMOSIS FILTRATION STAGES
All of out systems start with a minimum 4 stage filtration process:
1. Sediment Filter
2. Carbon Filter
3. GAC Carbon Filter
Optional Filtration Stages -
5. Carbon Polishing Post Filter
8. Ultra Violet (UV)
If you currently have a system with a standard membrane almost any system can be retro fitted with the high efficiency membrane or any other filtration stage.
