What does Reverse Osmosis System remove or reduce?
A reverse osmosis (RO) system is effective at removing chromium-6 (also known as hexavalent chromium) from water. Chromium-6 is a toxic form of chromium that can occur naturally or be released into the environment through industrial processes.
An (RO) system is effective at removing PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) chemicals from water. PFAS are a group of man-made chemicals widely used in various industrial and consumer products.
The are also effective in removing a number of other contaminants from water:
-
2,4-D / Bacteria / Copper / Manganese / Protozoa / Strontium / Algae / Barium / Cryptosporidium Cysts / Mercury / Radioactivity / Sulfate / Aluminum / Calcium / Cyanide / Mold / Sediment / Thiosulfate / Ameobic Cysts / Chloride / Fluoride / Nickel / Selenium / Total Volatile Organics / Arsenic / Chlorine / Giardia Lamblia Cysts / Nitrate / Silicate / Trihalomethane (THM) / Asbestos / Chromate / Lead / Phosphate / Silver / Zinc / Atrazine / Chromium 6 (Hexavalent Chromium) / Magnesium / Potassium / Sodium / PFAS / GenX, PFOA, and PFOS

What Is the Difference between Standard & High Efficiency Reverse Osmosis Systems?

Reverse Osmosis Membranes have a production rating of (GPD) gallons per day. The average standard membrane will waste 3 gallons of water for every 1 gallon of purified water it makes. In some cases with the cheaper systems and those that have a low GPD can waste as much as 5 to 6 gallons of water for every one gallon of purified drinking water.
All of our systems that are considered standard come with a minimum 50 GPD membrane and will have a 3:1 ratio. However we also offer systems that feature the Pentair GRO 50 or 75 GPD membrane. This membrane is currently the most efficient membrane on the market today and as a 1:1 ratio. Meaning it will waste 1 gallon for every 1 gallon of purified water it makes. These systems are also 2 to 4 times faster and quieter than a standard membrane.
Reverse Osmosis Systems Maintenance Cost?
When choosing a reverse osmosis system you will have to decide on a system that contains the industry standard 10" twist off filter housings or a system with encapsulated filters and in most cases are proprietary. Either way the water filtration quality is the same.
The differences in the filters will be how long they last and the replacement costs. Most systems sold through home improvement stores, or big box stores have encapsulated filters. Most of them have a 6 month life expectancy and the average yearly filter costs alone for these systems in some is more than the original system cost.
We always recommend the Industry Standard 10" housing systems as these filters are readily available virtually anywhere. This includes highly rated filters that only need to be replaced once a year.
We do offer systems with encapsulated filters for customers that like the sleek compact design and the convenience of the filter change process.
